NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Rivier men's soccer team traveled to New Haven, Conn. to take on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. Despite netting three goals, the Raiders fell short 4-3 to the Falcons. 

With the result, Rivier fell to 1-3-2 (0-1-1 GNAC), while Albertus Magnus improved to 4-3-0 (2-0 GNAC).  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The Falcons struck early, taking a 1-0 lead just 2:38 into the match. 

• The Raiders responded quickly just 10 minutes later when junior Alejandro Quezada found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1. 

• Albertus Magnus regained the advantage in the 25th minute to take a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. 

• The Raiders opened up the scoring coming back from the break as sophomore David Pereira finished off a setup from Quezada in the 61st minute to even the score yet again. 

• The deadlock remained until the 78th minute when the Falcons found the back of the net to extend the lead by one. 

• Just four minutes later, Albertus Magnus netted another to take a 4-2 lead. 

• Rivier continued to push forward and cut the deficit to one off another goal by Pereira with less than a minute remaining in the game. 

• The Raiders were unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle, securing the 4-3 victory for the Falcons.  

BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN 

• Pereira led Rivier with two goals and three shots on goal. 

• Sophomore Vincent Arsenov paced the Raiders with six total shots, including two on target.  

• Rivier held a 19-12 edge in shots and an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal. 

• The Raiders tallied three corner kicks while the Falcons tallied two.

The Rivier men's soccer team returns home to continue conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd versus Lasell University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Joanne Merrill Field.
