Men's Soccer Draws with UMass Dartmouth, 2-2

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University men's soccer team hosted UMass Dartmouth (UMD) on Sunday morning in its second non-conference contest of the weekend. Despite a hard-fought effort from both sides, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

With the result, the Raiders move to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Corsairs move to 0-2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams battled through a competitive first half, with Rivier generating the best scoring chances. Following a UMD yellow card in the 17th minute, senior midfielder Kyle Clairmont nearly broke the deadlock with a dangerous shot on goal.

  • The Raiders continued to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the opening half, controlling much of the attacking play, but the Corsair defense held firm to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.

  • Rivier opened the scoring in the 59th minute when junior forward Jalen Williams finished a setup from Clairmont to give the Raiders a 1-0 advantage.

  • UMD answered just three minutes later as Ahmad Dantata found Derrick Camara, who buried the equalizer to level the match at 1-1.

  • The Raiders regained the lead when Clairmont found the back of the net off a quick feed from Williams putting Rivier back in front.

  • The Corsairs responded once again with just seven minutes remaining following a series of headers. Nate Cordeiro capitalized to knot the score at 2-2, where it would remain through the final whistle.

BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN

  • Rivier held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

  • After managing just one shot in the opening half, UMass Dartmouth generated eight attempts in the second half. The Raiders maintained a steady offensive presence throughout the match, finishing with 15 total shots.

UP NEXT

The Raiders remain in Nashua for their final home match before a three-game road stretch, hosting the Vikings of Salem State on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Joanne Merrill Field.
