Jeff Costa '05 enters his fourth season as the Raiders women's volleyball head coach in 2025.
In Costa’s third season, the team finished with a 15-15 overall record and a 9-6 mark in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Securing the seventh seed, the squad advanced to the quarterfinals. Two members of the 2024 team earned All-Conference honors: senior Lily Sills was named to the Second Team, and junior Ali Rivera earned Third Team recognition.
During his second season, Costa and his squad posted an 18-9 overall record and an 11-4 mark in the GNAC, advancing to the GNAC tournament quarterfinals. Costa helped guide three student-athletes to All-Conference honors: Lily Sills earned First Team recognition, Brynn Roche was named to the Third Team, and Senior Captain Sofia Pawlusik was selected for the All-Sportsmanship Team.
In his first season at the helm of the women's program, after previously serving as an assistant on the men's side, Costa coached the Raiders to a 26-5 record and a spot in the GNAC Semifinals. Graduate students Sydney Racevicius and Avery Pollard were named the GNAC Player and Setter of the Year, respectively, for their efforts on the court. Along with their selections on the All-GNAC First Team, Lily Sills (First Team), Sofia Pawlusik (Second Team), Ali Rivera (Third Team), and Lydia Pray (Sportsmanship) all added conference honors.
Costa brings years of experience from both the men's and women's sides of the sport. He has coached at Mill City Volleyball since 2015, preparing club players for a collegiate career. Costa also previously coached Windham High School's junior varsity program and earned New Hampshire Volleyball Association JV Coach of the Year honors in 2018.
Costa's collegiate coaching career began in 2011, when he was named the head coach of Lesley University's men's volleyball program. Costa then assumed the role of assistant coach at Merrimack College during the 2015-2016 season before being elevated to head coach of the program in 2017.
While at Merrimack, Costa oversaw the program's transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I in 2019. Costa coached some of the top student-athletes in program history, including Madison Burke, Tara Stuhr, Mary Kate McCarroll, and Christina Nye. His recruiting classes were among the largest for the program since 2011.
A dual-sport athlete and captain of the soccer and volleyball teams at MHS (2001) and Rivier College (2005).
Costa graduated from Rivier College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. While at Rivier, Costa was a part of four consecutive NECVA New England Championship teams and made an appearance in the 2004 NECVA Championship game during his junior season.
Costa has been a lifelong resident of Methuen where he currently lives with his wife Ashley, their daughter, Lina, and their two dogs, Goose and Bella.
