SENIORS PREVAIL

Rivier College (11-1 GNAC; 22-10 overall), winners of 11 straight
matches, defeated a pair of GNAC foes to finish the regular season
as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular season
champions. The Raiders defeated both Simmons College and
Lasell College in three straight sets to clinch their first regular
season title in 6 years. Rivier's four seniors, playing their
last regular season match in The Muldoon, went out in style.
Setter Laura Ciummo (Burrillville, RI) dished out
71 assists to add to her Raider record of 3,709 career assists
while outside hitter Nicole Hersey (Milton, NH)
added 17 more kills to her record of 1,148 kills. Defensive
player Colleen Van Cura (Niantic, CT) scooped up
36 more digs pushing her career total even more over the 1000 mark
and Erin McIver (Haverhill, MA), as usual, did a
little bit of everything with 5 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace and 1
block.
Rivier's seniors had plenty of help in the clinching
victories. Sophomores Danielle Jacques (Derry,
NH) bombed in 18 kills while fellow classmate
Brittni Taylor (East Lyme, CT) put down 9 kills on
just 15 swings with no errors. The freshmen trio of
Danielle Stoodley (Salem, NH), Lauren Saccoccio (Warwick,
RI), and Emileigh Cenedella (Townsend,
MA) laced in 4 ace serves apiece and passed well with good
defense.
