Rivier 78 Eastern
Nazarene 74
This was a game of 2 halves. Riv went from allowing the Crusaders
to score at will in the first 20 mintues to clamping down on them
defensively in the final stanza. The Raiders allowed ENC to score
43 first half points on a sizzling 67% from the floor. Riv
re-grouped at half and came out with a renewed commitment to
defense as they held ENC to just 31 points (on 36% shooting) in the
final 25 minutes. The Raiders pulled down 19 offensive rebounds
while holding the Crusaders to just 5. This dominance on the glass
and our 75% shooting from the free throw line helped seal the
overtime win.
Riv was led by juniors Monica White and
Jess Mellen. White dropped in a career-high 25
points (on 6 of 12 from 3-point land). White's offense
single-handedly kept the Raiders in the game in the first half.
Monica then hit a 3-point dagger to give Riv a 74-71 lead they
would not relinquish with 2:40 left in OT. Jess Mellen was simply
"Mellen being Mellen". She continues to fill up the stat sheet as
she finished with 20 points, 17 rebounds (9 offensive), a
career-high 9 assists and 5 steals. Freshman Allie
Parent continued her stellar play as she chipped in with
14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and just 1 turnover.
