Rivier 70 Saint Joseph's - ME
66
The Raiders built an 8-point lead at the break and then held on for
dear life as the Monks came back in the second half. SJC-ME took a
4 point lead with 2:46 left to play only to have Riv respond with
clutch free throw shooting by junior Jess Mellen and a layup from
freshman Allie Parent that tied the game. The Raiders iced the game
at the charity stripe as they shot 86% for the game.
Riv was led by senior Justine Nims and junior
Blair Carpenter's 16 points. The duo combined for
7 of the 10 3-pointers made for the Blue and Gray. Nims added 7
rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Carpenter, meanwhile, was tough
as nails all night long on the defensive side of the ball. Junior
Monica White sealed the win for Riv on the free
throw line as she hit 5 huge freebies to help keep the game out of
reach. White finished with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Junior Jess Mellen had a great all-around game.
She chipped in with 10 points (4 for 4 from the charity stripe), 8
rebounds (5 offensive), 4 assists and 4 steals. Freshman
Allie Parent had a game-high 8 assists to go with
5 rebounds.
