Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Raiders roll past Maine Maritime; Rivier 74 MMA 63

For the second game in a row, Riv (2-1) stumbled out of the gate. The Raiders faced early deficits of 12-0 and 17-4 before an offensive push by the Blue and Gray knotted the game at 24. A 5-0 Mariner run in the final 2 minutes gave the home team a 38-33 advantage at the break.

The Raiders came out in the 2nd half operating on all cylinders. Two quick baskets by juinor Steph Adams (Nashua, NH) got things going. Riv then handled things on defense as they held MMA to 25 points on just 28% shooting from the field (14% from beyond the arc). Conversely, the Raider offense was on fire. Riv shot 55% from the field while dropping in 41 points to put the game out of reach.

Senior Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA) continued her dominant play with her 3rd consecutive double-double. Mellen finished with 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME) spoiled any hopes of a Mariner comeback when she drilled two huge treys in the final 6 minutes. White finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Freshman Ashley Metivier (Hudson, NH) had a career night. She tallied 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a game-high 3 steals. It was Ashley's clutch shooting at the end that kept Maine Maritime at bay. Sophomore Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) and freshman Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME) were both solid for the visitors. They combined for 13 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

The Raiders finish their 4-game road trip on Tuesday night. Riv will go for 2 in a row when they take on Regis College. Game time is 5pm.

Senior captains Jess Mellen and Monica White were named to the All-Tournament Team.
