Nashua, NH- After dropping the Tip Off Tournament Championship
last season to Rivier as well as an ECAC tournament game, the
Colby-Sawyer Chargers defeated the Rivier Raiders in the
championship game of the All Metals Industries/Rivier Tip-Off
tournament 73-54. The Chargers controlled the boards by
grabbing 44 rebounds while doing it on offense as well by shooting
47% from the floor during the game.
The Raiders got behind early as the Chargers started the game
off with a 10-2 run and never looked back, gaining a 14 point
advantage at the half by a score of 39-25. The second half
was more of the same as the Raiders struggled offensively and
committed 15 turnovers in the game to give the Chargers some fast
break opportunities. Colby-Sawyer senior Jon Chaloux (Barre,
VT) led the way for the Chargers with 26 points and took home
tournament MVP honors. Sophomore Will Bardaglio (Wayne, ME)
went 4-4 from behind the arc and chipped in with 14 points.
Zach McBey (Franklin, NH) led the Chargers with 11 total
rebounds. The Raiders struggled to find their offense while
only shooting 33% and struggled to keep players on the floor due to
foul trouble early in the game. Nick Bean
(East Longmeadow, MA) led the Raiders with 14 points,
going 3-6 from the 3 point line. Freshman Elisha
Robinson (Proctor, VT) sparked the Raiders off the bench
with 8 points. Senior Luke Brownell (Hubbardston,
MA) grabbed a team high 7 boards for the Raiders.
In the consolation game, The Daniel Webster Eagles held off the
Anna Maria AMCATS 72-71. Junior Chris Hanson (Salem, MA) led
the way for the Eagles with 22 points and 6 rebounds, he was 6-13
from three point range giving the Eagles the cushion they needed to
hold off the charging AMCATS down the stretch. The AMCATS got
a strong game out of junior Ryan Joyal (Marlboro, MA) with 17
points and 9 rebounds. Junior Chris Pinsonault (Marlboro, MA)
put up a double-double for Anna Maria scoring 13 points and pulling
down 11 rebounds in the loss.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-1 after the weekend while the Raiders
start the season off with a 1-1 mark. Daniel Webster improves
to 3-1 after defeating the AMCATS, who fall to 0-3 to kick
off the 2009-10 season.
The Raiders will continue the season when they host New England
College on Tuesday, November 24 at 5:30 PM.
