Colby-Sawyer Gets Revenge on Rivier and Wins Tip Off Tournament

Nashua, NH- After dropping the Tip Off Tournament Championship last season to Rivier as well as an ECAC tournament game, the Colby-Sawyer Chargers defeated the Rivier Raiders in the championship game of the All Metals Industries/Rivier Tip-Off tournament 73-54.  The Chargers controlled the boards by grabbing 44 rebounds while doing it on offense as well by shooting 47% from the floor during the game.

The Raiders got behind early as the Chargers started the game off with a 10-2 run and never looked back, gaining a 14 point advantage at the half by a score of 39-25.  The second half was more of the same as the Raiders struggled offensively and committed 15 turnovers in the game to give the Chargers some fast break opportunities.  Colby-Sawyer senior Jon Chaloux (Barre, VT) led the way for the Chargers with 26 points and took home tournament MVP honors.  Sophomore Will Bardaglio (Wayne, ME) went 4-4 from behind the arc and chipped in with 14 points.  Zach McBey (Franklin, NH) led the Chargers with 11 total rebounds.  The Raiders struggled to find their offense while only shooting 33% and struggled to keep players on the floor due to foul trouble early in the game.    Nick Bean (East Longmeadow, MA) led the Raiders with 14 points, going 3-6 from the 3 point line.  Freshman Elisha Robinson (Proctor, VT) sparked the Raiders off the bench with 8 points.  Senior Luke Brownell (Hubbardston, MA) grabbed a team high 7 boards for the Raiders.

In the consolation game, The Daniel Webster Eagles held off the Anna Maria AMCATS 72-71.  Junior Chris Hanson (Salem, MA) led the way for the Eagles with 22 points and 6 rebounds, he was 6-13 from three point range giving the Eagles the cushion they needed to hold off the charging AMCATS down the stretch.  The AMCATS got a strong game out of junior Ryan Joyal (Marlboro, MA) with 17 points and 9 rebounds.  Junior Chris Pinsonault (Marlboro, MA) put up a double-double for Anna Maria scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-1 after the weekend while the Raiders start the season off with a 1-1 mark.  Daniel Webster improves to 3-1 after defeating the AMCATS, who fall to 0-3  to kick off the 2009-10 season.

The Raiders will continue the season when they host New England College on Tuesday, November 24 at 5:30 PM.
