Riv held Fisher to 11 second half points which helped put this
game out of reach. The Raiders held the visitors to 17% shooting
from the floor while knocking down 42% of their attempts in the
final stanza.
Sophomore Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) led the
way for the Blue and Gray as she had a game-high 14 points (2 for 3
from downtown) to go with 2 assists and 2 steals. Purcell also had
0 turnovers in 27 minutes of action. The big man trio of senior
Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA), junior Steph
Adams (Nashua, NH) and freshman Mackenzie
Brooks (Colebrook, NH) were dominant in the paint once
again. They combined for 27 points, 24 rebounds, 6 assists and 6
steals. Adams led the way with 12 points while Mellen pulled down a
game-high 11 rebounds. Senior Monica White also
played well as she chipped in with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3
assists.
Many thought this would be a rebuilding year but the young
Raider squad has proven that through passion, a willingness to put
team above self and hard work, anything can happen. This was the
most difficult out of conference schedule Riv has played in several
years. Their 6 wins prove they can compete with any team in their
conference and in New England.
Riv takes a break from the hardwood as they head into finals
next week. A trip to warm and sunny Key Largo, FL in early January
will get this group ready for the rigors of conference play. While
in Key Largo, the Raiders will play Mount Holyoke College on
January 3rd and Drew University on January 5th.
