Key Largo, FL - Riv (7-3) stormed out of the gates and raced to
an eight point lead in the early minutes of their first game back
from break. The Raiders forced 15 turnovers and drained four
3-pointers in the opening stanza which accounted for their 10 point
lead at the break. The Lyons went on an 18-6 run in the first six
minutes of the second half to take their first lead of the game.
The Blue and Gray fought back and held a small lead for much of the
final 12 minutes. Two back to back turnovers by Riv allowed
MHC to take a 60-59 lead with 1:04 to go. Three defensive stops, a
clutch 3-pointer and four consecutive free throws sealed the win
for Riv.
Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME) led the way
with a team-high 16 points to go with 2 assists and 2 steals. White
went a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe while committing
just 1 turnover. Freshman Lauren Brett (Otisfield,
ME) dropped in a career-high 15 points which included a game-high 3
treys. Senior Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA) tallied
yet another double-double of 10 points and game-highs in rebounds
(13), assists (6) and steals (6). Junior Steph
Adams (Nashua, NH), sophomore Amandra
Purcell (Hudson, NH) and freshman Ashley
Metivier (Hudson, NH) also played well for the Raiders as
they combined for 23 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals.
Riv plays undefeated Drew University on Tuesday afternoon. Tip
is slated for 1pm.
