Riv (3-2) got back over .500 with a big non-conference win at
home. They used a stifling second half defense to extend their lead
and put the game out of reach with four minutes to go. Some silly
turnovers and missed free throws led to the final margin. The
Raiders held the Lynx to 22 points on just 28% shooting in the
final stanza. The difference in the game was Riv's toughness and
aggressiveness on the glass. The Blue and Gray out-rebounded a much
taller Lesley team by 9 and hauled down 22 on the offensive end.
The Raiders were led by senior Jess Mellen
(Rockland, MA) and freshman Mackenzie Brooks
(Colebrook, NH). Mellen recorded her 4th double-double (in 5 games)
while Brooks added her first. Jess finished with a team-high 17
points to go with 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Mackenzie was a monster
on the boards, pulling down a career-high 19 (9 offensive). She
added 10 points, an assist and a steal. Freshman Lauren
Brett (Otisfield, ME) dropped in a career-high 13 points
(on 3 of 5 shooting from downtown) to go with 3 rebounds. Senior
Monica White (Augusta, ME), junior Steph
Adams (Nashua, NH). sophomore Amandra
Purcell (Hudson, NH) and freshman Ashley
Metivier (Hudson, NH) all contributed at key moments to
help the home team come away with the W. The foursome combined for
20 points, 18 rebounds and 8 steals.
The Raiders are back in the friendly confines of the Muldoon
Center on Saturday for another pivotal out of conference match-up.
Riv will face UMaine-Farmington - game time is 3pm.
