In a tight battle that saw both teams take 5-point advantages in
the first 20 minutes, Riv (5-2) won the last 3 minutes and took a
29-24 lead into the break. The game stayed close for much of the
second half as the game was tied with 8:37
remaining. The Raiders then did what they do best and that is put
the game out of reach with defensive stops and offensive execution.
An 8-0 run over the next 2 minutes gave the Blue and Gray a cushion
that would extend to 15 points to put the game out of reach. Riv
shot 46% from the field including 40% from downtown in the final
stanza.
The Raiders were led by sophomore Amandra
Purcell (Hudson, NH) who had a career-night. She dropped
in a career-best 19 points including 5 for 8 from beyond the arc.
Amandra also dished out a game-high 6 assists. Senior Jess
Mellen (Rockland, MA), junior Steph Adams
(Nashua, NH) and freshman Mackenzie Brooks
(Colebrook, NH) dominated the paint. The trio accounted for 22
second chance points (including 14 in the second half). They
finished with a combined 31 points and 24 rebounds. Senior
Monica White (Augusta, ME) hit a huge trey to
swing momentum to the visitors late in the second half. She
finished with 9 points and just 1 turnover in 30 minutes of action.
Freshman Sarah Howard (East Greenwich, RI) came
off the bench and provided a big spark for Riv.
The Raiders are back home on Thursday night for a matchup
against NESCAC foe Trinity College. Tip is slated for 7pm.
