Nashua, NH - In the first semi-final match of the day, top
ranked and host Rivier College took care of business and secured a
spot in next weekend's NECVA Championship Tournament after taking
down Johnson & Wales University 3-0.
The Raiders were led on offense by senior middle hitter Scott
Wright who pounded down 12 kills on just 16 attempts with 2 errors
for a .625 hitting percentage. Setter Zach
Hansen, despite a sprained finger, played well, dishing
out 36 assists as well as recording a season high 8 service aces
along with 4 digs. Freshmen Drew Corwin and
Andrew Paine both played well in their limited
time, each recording 4 kills and hitting over the .500 percent
mark.
Johnson & Wales was led by outside hitters Sean Lauro and
Peter Yanakiev. The tandem made up almost half of the
Wildcats kills and both passed well all match.
Between Semi-final matches, the GNAC All-Conference Teams were
announced. Six Raiders players as well as coach Craig Kolek
were recognized on the two team, the most of any school. The
All Conference Teams are listed below.
