Manchester, NH - Rivier College (3-5 overall; 0-0 GNAC) fell to
Division II Southern New Hampshire University in three straight
sets on Monday night. The Raiders started off with another
slow start, falling behind the Penmen by as many as 14 points, but
battled back and trimmed the deficit to just 3 points before losing
the set 21-25. RIV used the momentum of the first set to draw
some confidence and go toe to toe with SNHU through most of the
second set only to fall short late in the game. In
set three the Penmen's block proved to be too much forcing RIV into
a series of hitting errors to win the match.
Middle hitter Nicole Rodriguez and
Lindsay Chace paced the Raider offense with 7 and
6 kills respectively while Chace also picked up 2 blocks.
Kenna Finlayson chipped in with 5
kills and 2 blocks. Defensive specialist Becky
Gautreau played well with 5 digs while fellow backcourt
mates Danielle Stoodley and Emeleigh
Cenedella tallied 4 digs apiece. Setter
Lauren Saccoccio dished out 23 assists.
Rivier will host Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday 9/17 for their
first home match of the season. RIV will unveil their 2008
GNAC championship banner prior to the match. All the
festivities start at 7:00pm sharp.
