Nashua, NH - Colby-Sawyer College spoiled the 2009 home opener
for the Raiders sneaking out of The Muldoon with a hard fought 3-1
win on Thursday night. The Raiders, who opened the night
unveiling their 2008 GNAC Championship banner, played their best
game to date with scrap, hustle and heart but came up just short in
the match. Leading the hard nose defensive charge for The
Raiders was libero Danielle Stoodley who ate up
the Charger offense with 31 digs in just 4 sets. The 5'6
sophomore from Salem NH also served a team high 5 ace serves in the
effort. Back court mate Becky Gautreau was
solid with 9 digs to compliment Stoodley as they combined for 40 of
the Raiders 77 team digs.
On offense first year player Kenna Finlayson
pounded out 15 kills on 25 attempts with just 5 errors for a .400
hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter Nicole
Rodriguez tallied her first double double of the year with
10 kills and 11 digs while junior Danielle Jacques put down 9 kills
of her own. Sophomore setter Caitie Callahan
took advantage of her first start of the year and dished out 43
assists and chipped in on defense with 4 digs. Outside hitter
Emileigh Cenedella was steady all match with 7
kills, 9 digs, 2 ace serves and a perfect 21 for 21 on receive
while senior Lindsay Chace picked up 7 kills and 5
digs.
Rivier (3-6 overall; 0-0 GNAC) will travel to Boston MA on Saturday
9/19 for their first GNAC match of the year. At noon Rivier
will challenge host Emmanuel College followed by a 2:00pm match
against Mt Ida College.
