CHARGERS SURVIVE SCRAPPY RAIDERS

Nashua, NH - Colby-Sawyer College spoiled the 2009 home opener for the Raiders sneaking out of The Muldoon with a hard fought 3-1 win on Thursday night.  The Raiders, who opened the night unveiling their 2008 GNAC Championship banner, played their best game to date with scrap, hustle and heart but came up just short in the match.  Leading the hard nose defensive charge for The Raiders was libero Danielle Stoodley who ate up the Charger offense with 31 digs in just 4 sets.  The 5'6 sophomore from Salem NH also served a team high 5 ace serves in the effort.  Back court mate Becky Gautreau was solid with 9 digs to compliment Stoodley as they combined for 40 of the Raiders 77 team digs.

On offense first year player Kenna Finlayson pounded out 15 kills on 25 attempts with just 5 errors for a .400 hitting percentage.  Junior middle hitter Nicole Rodriguez tallied her first double double of the year with 10 kills and 11 digs while junior Danielle Jacques put down 9 kills of her own.  Sophomore setter Caitie Callahan took advantage of her first start of the year and dished out 43 assists and chipped in on defense with 4 digs.  Outside hitter Emileigh Cenedella was steady all match with 7 kills, 9 digs, 2 ace serves and a perfect 21 for 21 on receive while senior Lindsay Chace picked up 7 kills and 5 digs.

Rivier (3-6 overall; 0-0 GNAC) will travel to Boston MA on Saturday 9/19 for their first GNAC match of the year.  At noon Rivier will challenge host Emmanuel College followed by a 2:00pm match against Mt Ida College.
