Nashua, NH - Rivier College stepped on the field for their
second game of the season against another young program in the
Regis College Pride. Just 2:36 into the first half Rivier's
Ashley Ruocco (Fr, E. Kingston, NH) scored her
first goal of the season and gave Rivier a 1-0 lead that they would
never give up. Regis put forth a valiant effort as they
played the game with exactly 11 players and had no subs available,
but as the game wore on, the fresher legs of the Raiders were able
to prevail and finish with a 4-0 victory.
Freshman Lindsay Rettenmeier (Ashford, CT) led
the way for Rivier with a hat trick, scoring three goals in the
game and pushing the score to 4-0 with only 11:00 left in the
game. Fellow freshman Meghan MacDonald (Dedham,
MA) helped out by assisting on the first two goals scored
by Rivier. Erin Gatsas (Manchester, NH)
assisted on Rettenmeier's second goal while Ruocco assisted on the
final goal of the game.
Rivier's goalkeeper Jenna Beadle (Rumney, NH)
was nothing less than spectacular in goal, stopping all 7 shots she
faced and preserving the shutout for the Raiders. Regis
Goalkeeper Sara Ankerud (Groton, MA) stopped 5 of the Raiders 9
shots on goal, but came away with the loss as the Pride offense
couldn't get the ball into the goal.
Rivier will be playing again at home on Saturday, September
19th against Husson College at 12:30 PM. Prior to
the game Rivier College will officially bless the new artificially
turfed field that they will now call home. The Blessing is
scheduled for 11:30 AM, then both the Men's and Women's soccer
teams will play on the field following the field hockey game.
