East Providence, R.I.- Sophomore Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth,
Mass.) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in
overtime, to lead the Johnson & Wales women's soccer team to a
2-1 victory against Rivier in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference
contest at Pierce Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The two teams battled throughout the first half with each team
taking six shots en route to a scoreless tie after 45 minutes of
play.
Sophomore Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth, Mass.) put Johnson &
Wales ahead early in the second half when she scored on a through
ball from sophomore Caitlyn Albert (Merrimack, N.H.) at the 48:34
mark. Rivier responded in the 65th minute when
freshman Amy Desimone (Methuen, Mass.) scored on a
pass from junior Nina Seher (Nashua, N.H.) to knot
the game at 1-1. Regulation would end with the 1-1 tie.
JWU dominated play in the overtime period before the Wildcats
were awarded a corner kick. Albert put the kick into the top
of the box where Reynolds headed in the game-winner at the 98:37
mark to give the Wildcats the 2-1 victory.
Junior Kory Blythe (Fall River, Mass.) had five saves in the
victory for Johnson & Wales while freshman Karina
Arnold (New London, N.H.) had six stops in the loss for
Rivier.
Rivier will take on Emerson College in another GNAC conference
game in Boston on Saturday, Spetmeber 26th. The game will
take place on the Field at Rotch Playground at 12:30 PM.
