The Raiders travel down to Boston on a beautiful fall afternoon
to play the women soccer team of Emerson College on their home
coming day weekend in yet another GNAC conference tilt.
The Raiders started off the game a little slow and Emerson was
able to carry the play. However as the 1st half went on,
the Raiders slowly gained the mid field and began to carry the
play. Before long it was the Raiders who were really bringing the
match to Emerson.
The game remained tied until the 41st minute of the
first half, when Emerson's Rachel Lerma was able to receive a cross
from Lindsay D'Andrea out of the left flank and place the ball in
the right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. The 1st half
would end 1-0 in favor of Emerson, but Rivier College would strike
first in the second half in the 54th minute when
freshmen Amy DeSimone (Methuen, Ma.) would score
unassisted following in on a rebound off her own shot.
The score was tied 1-1 and we had a game brewing. Emerson would
come right back and 2 minutes later had regained the lead 2-1 on a
Katie Franzeo goal. It went all downhill from there for the
Raiders, as Emerson would score three more times and Rivier College
could find no answers to counter Emerson College. The game would
end 5-1 and the Raiders would fall to 1-3 in the conference and 2-4
overall.
Rivier will not have to wait long to try and break their losing
streak. They play at home in a non conference match against Daniel
Webster College at 7:30pm , on Monday 9/28/09. It is the always
heated cross town rivalry game for bragging rights to DIII women
college soccer supremacy in Nashua, NH.
