The Rivier College Men's Soccer team traveled to Boston, MA for
today's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup vs.
Emerson College. The Raiders limped into today's match. They were
playing their 4th game in seven days. They battled hard
in the first half, withstanding numerous Lions attacks.
Junior keeper John Jarvis (Henniker, NH)
started in net. Jarvis had 17 saves while facing 28 shots.
The Lions scored early in the contest (13th minute)
on a pass from Casey Shane to Mike Giles. The Raiders defense
settled itself down for the remainder of the half. Sophomore
Cameron Williams (Lisbon, NH), recently named GNAC
Rookie of the week Mike Birecki (Andover, MA) and
Junior Andrew McCarn (Laconia, NH) played stellar
defense thought the remaining 32 minutes of the first half. The
Raiders got the equalizer just two minutes into the second half on
a service from Chris Nugent (Camberly Surrey,
England) to Gustavo Paiva (Nashua, NH) who feed
Senior Gustavo Marques (Lowell, MA) who found the
back of the net. The Game winner for Emerson came in the
72nd minute on a rebound from a defensive clearance.
Phil Svitek found the ball about 15 yards from goal and had no
hesitation finding the back of the Raiders goal.
The Raiders will have little time to rest. The play host to the
Lesley University Lynx on Monday night at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday the
Raiders will again be on the road when they travel to Standish, ME
to take on GNAC opponent St. Joseph's College of Maine.
The Rivier College Men's Soccer team hopes you will
join them on Tuesday October 6th when they play host to
the visiting Daniel Webster College Eagles. The Raiders will be
Lending their support for Breast Cancer Awareness. The Rivier
Nursing Department will have RN Nursing Students available to
answer any questions you may have. The Rivier Baseball program will
be traveling to DWC on Sunday October 4th.
Both programs will be showing their support by helping
the Making Strides walk to raise funds for breast cancer research.
The walk will take place on October 18th at 10am in
Greeley Park in Nashua.
