Nashua, NH - The Rivier College women's soccer team
played Johnson & Wales University to a 2-2 double
overtime tie in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at
home on Sunday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales got on the board first when junior Amanda
Aguiar (Fall River, Mass.) put in a corner kick from junior
Berkeley Cecchini-Bond (Uncascille, CT) at the 26:54 mark. JWU
took the 1-0 lead into halftime with a commanding 12-3 advantage in
shots for the stanza.
Rivier knotted the game at 1-1 in the 71st minute when
Morgan Greene (Acworth, NH) converted a penalty
kick. The host Raiders struck again quickly after Deanna
Cetto (Sterling, MA) scored an unassisted goal to
put the team up 2-1 at the 72:43 mark. Johnson & Wales answered
at the 83:37 mark when junior Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth, Mass.)
put in a pass from Cecchini-Bond to tie the game at 2-2.
Johnson & Wales controlled the first overtime period with a
3-0 advantage in shots, but couldn't convert as the game went into
a second overtime period. Both teams had solid chances in the
second ten minute stanza, however neither could score as the game
ended in a 2-2 tie.
Freshman Christine
Surber (Langdon, NH) had 13 stops for Rivier
while senior Jennifer Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) made four saves for
Johnson & Wales.
With the tie the Raiders are now 7-7-2 overall and 3-5-2 in GNAC
action and Johnson & Wales is now 6-8-1 overall, 4-3-1 in the
in league play. The Raiders return to the field on Tuesday night at
8:00 pm against GNAC foe Emerson College.
