Nashua, NH - The Albertus Magnus Falcons flew by the Rivier
College Raiders tonight, dominating the game and cruising to a 5-1
victory in tonight's GNAC men's soccer action.
The Falcons got on the board early as sophomore Alphonse
Buccitti (West Haven, CT) weaved through and raced past the defense
to grab the unassisted goal in the 5th minute of play to put the
visiting team up 1-0. Buccitti struck again in the 17th
minute, taking the lead pass from teammate Jamal Howard (West
Haven, CT) and once again flying to the goal with the Raiders
trailing behind. Howard scored the final goal of the half,
taking a pass from Josue Galo (New Haven, CT). Raiders goal
keeper John
Jarvis(Henniker, NH) made 8 saves in the first half, many at
point blank range, to keep the home team within striking distance
as the Raiders trailed at halftime 3-0.
The second half scoring opened up with the Raiders getting on
the scoreboard. Sophomore Mike Birecki
(Andover, MA) took a lead pass from freshman Kevin Murray
(Manchester, NH) to cut the lead to 3-1. However, the speed
of the Falcons proved to be too much as Gabriel Goja (Naugatuck,
CT) and Matt Siperas (North Haven, CT) both picked up goals to
finish off the scoring and give the Falcons the 5-1 win.
Jarvis finished the game with a season high 21 saves for the
Raiders, while his counterpart, Albertus Magnus keeper, Donato
Piroscafo (Naugatuck, CT) had 5 saves and gave up 1 goal in
the win.
The Falcons improve to 12-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in GNAC play
while the Raiders fall to 2-14 overall and 0-8 in the GNAC.
The win keeps the Falcons in the fight for the second seed in the
GNAC playoff chase.
The Raiders will play next when they host Mount Ida College for
Senior Day on Saturday, October 23rd at 11:00 AM.
