Nashua, NH - After a tightly played first half, the Lions from
Emerson College scored 3 second half goals to defeat the Raiders by
a final of 4-0. Emerson's Mike Giles (Wakefield, RI) scored
two goals in the second half while Kevin Peters (Nanuet, NY) had
the game winning first goal at the halfway point in the first
half.
Peters scored the first goal of the game at the 21:33 mark in
the first half after picking up the rebound of a John
Jarvis (Henniker, NH) save on a shot from
Emerson teammate Cory Walls (Scituate, MA). Rivier had 3
shots on goal in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the
net and went in to half time trailing 1-0.
The second half was dominated by the much deeper Emerson
squad. The Lions got off 18 total shots, including 6 shots on
goal, but the Raiders could only manage 2 total shots and 0 shots
on goal for the remainder of the game. Giles scored his first
of two goals at the 56:35 mark when he too was the recipient of a
saved Cory Walls shot. Walls was able to find the back of the
net a little later to put the Lions up 3-0 at 60:08 and Peters
finished the scoring at 69:57 with his second goal and the teams
fourth.
Jarvis made 9 saves for the Raiders, but allowed all 4 goals in
the loss. His counterpart, Aaron Drescher (Latham, NY) saved
all 3 shot attempts that came his way and picked up the win for
Emerson. Rivier's Chris Nugent (Camberly,
UK) was able to get 3 shots off (2 on goal) to lead the Raiders,
who fell to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in GNAC play. Emerson
improves to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC.
Rivier will host another GNAC opponent, Norwich University,
at 5:00 PM on Monday, October 11th. Meanwhile the Lions will
take on Suffolk University on the same day at 12:00 PM.
