Rivier Sweeps Pine Manor And Simmons

Chestnut Hill, MA - Rivier College (6-0 GNAC; 12-8 overall) defeated a pair of GNAC opponents to remain undefeated in conference play and run their overall win streak to 6 straight matches.  In the opening match Rivier swept the Gators of Pine Manor College 3-0 with all 15 active Raider players helping in the victory.  Freshman Megan Dudek (W. Chesterfield, NH)and sophomore Meghan Farrell (Marlborough, MA) led the Raider attack with 5 kills apiece in just 2 sets. Dudek hit for a tidy .444 percentage going 5 for 9 with just 1 error while Farrell put down 5 kills on 15 attempts with no errors for a .333 hitting clip. Freshmen Jessica Amaral (E. Providence, RI) and Toni-Rose Bailon (Manchester, NH) combined with sophomore Christi Pratte (Manchester, NH) for 7 digs and steady passing while first year players Erin Sweeney (Chicopee, MA) and Morgan Peck (Sudbury, MA) played well for the Blue and White. Amaral led all Raiders with 3 service aces.

Rivier came out firing in the second match against Simmons College and played some of their best ball of the year to easily sweep the Sharks 3-0. The junior trio of Lauren Saccoccio (Warwick, RI), Emileigh Cenedella (Townsend, MA), and Caitlin Callahan (Dedham, MA) showed great leadership to anchor the Raiders in the victory.  Saccoccio directed the Raider offense to an aggressive .301 team hitting percentage and helped out in other areas with 6 digs, 2 ace serves, and 1 block.  Cenedella and Callahan passed nails all match combining for 22 out of 22 on receive and followed up the passing with steady defense lipping a combined 25 digs. Freshman Jessica Amaral (E. Providence, RI) fit in nicely with the juniors showing great passing, defense and serving. Offensively the Raiders had a solid mix of kills from inside out. Freshman Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) and senior Nicole Rodriguez (Newton, MA) scored 9 and 8 kills respectively in the middle and combined for 5 blocks. At the pins sophomore Kenna Finlayson (Derry, NH) pounded out a match high 17 kills and a nearly unstoppable .571 hitting percentage while senior Danielle Jacques (Derry, NH) put down 5 kills and a .266 hitting percentage.

Rivier returns home to The Doon on Monday October 11 for a 1:00pm match against GNAC foe Emmanuel College.
