Rivier (15-7; 7-3) was finally able to play with their full
complement of players after suffering from several key
injuries over the past few weeks. This allowed the Blue and Gray to
get back to doing what they do best and that is dominating the
defensive side of the ball. Riv's suffocating defense held the
high-scoring Cadets to a season-low 54 points. The Raiders were
down 50-48 with 4:21 left in the game. A timeout by the visitors
allowed them to re-group and go on a 14-4 run to pull out the win.
Riv held the home squad to 0 points in the final 2:53 and
out-rebounded the much taller team by a commanding 51-37 edge.
The Raiders game plan of dominating the paint worked to
perfection as junior Steph Adams (Nashua, NH) and
freshman Mackenzie Brooks (Colebrook, NH) each
tallied double-doubles. Brooks had a game-high 17 points and
grabbed 10 rebounds while Adams dropped in 14 points to go with 12
rebounds. Senior Jess Mellen
(Rockland, MA) also played well and finished with game-highs in
rebounds (13) and assists (6). Senior Monica White
(Augusta, ME) and freshmen Ashley Metivier
(Hudson, NH) and Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME)
contributed 25 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Raiders are back on the road on Saturday. They travel to New
Haven, CT to take on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College. Tip is
scheduled for 1pm.
