Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Raiders Make History With First Win

Nashua, NH – Rivier College, in the first year competing in women's lacrosse, captured their first win today with a decisive 18-6 win over GNAC foe St. Joseph College (Conn.). Junior captain Natalie Bonvie (Salem, NH) led the charge, scoring 6 goals with 1 assist for the Raiders in the win. Freshman Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME) and sophomore Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, NH) scored 5 goals each with Brett helping out with 3 assists as well.

The first half scoring was started by Lauren Brett when she cleared a ball herself and took it from beyond midfield all the way to the goal to put the Raiders up 1-0, but 2 minutes later Jays leading scorer Diana Soucier (Avon, CT) knotted the game at 1-1 with a free position goal. It wasn't until more than 6 minutes later that Rivier went on a 7-0 scoring run, scoring 7 unanswered goals over the next 17 minutes of play. Brett had a hand in either scoring or assisting in five of the seven goals scored (3 goals, 2 assists). St. Joseph's tried to gain back the momentum by scoring 2 goals in a 30 second span during the last minute of play, but Natalie Bonvie wasn't about to let that happen as she added Rivier's 9th goal of the half with just 1 second remaining on the clock to send Rivier to the locker room with a 9-3 advantage.

The second half saw St. Joseph continue to cut into the Raiders lead, only to have Rivier extend it again. All three Jays goals were answered by a Raider goal within 3 minutes of scoring. With the score 12-6 in favor of the Raiders at the 18:00 mark, Rivier once again held the Jays scoreless while scoring 6 goals of their own to finish the game with their first victory, 18-6.

The Raiders will take on cross town rival Daniel Webster College on Thursday, April 8th at 7:00 PM at Rivier College, while St. Joseph College will host Becker College on Monday, April 5th.
