East Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales men's
soccer squad posted a 2-0 victory against Rivier in a Great
Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Saturday
afternoon.
Johnson & Wales got on the board first when freshman Eric
Delgado (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored his first collegiate goal, putting
in a pass from fellow freshman James Brennan (Shirley, N.Y.) at the
36:49 mark. The Wildcats would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 45th
minute when freshman Malcolm Turner (Cliffside Park, N.J.) scored,
again with an assist to Brennan to put JWU ahead 2-0 heading into
halftime.
JWU continued to control the action in the second stanza with a
7-3 advantage in shots en route to the 2-0 shutout victory.
Senior Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) made two saves in the win
for Johnson & Wales, while senior John Jarvis
(Henniker, N.H.) recorded 13 saves in the setback for
Rivier.
Johnson & Wales had a commanding 28-5 advantage in shots in
the victory.
With the win Johnson & Wales is now 1-2-1 overall and 1-0 in
the GNAC while Rivier falls to 0-4, 0-1 in league play. The Raider
will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to New London,
NH to take on Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference match
up.
