FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's
soccer team scored three times in the first 32 minutes to take a
3-1 non-conference victory over Rivier College today at Prescott
Field.
The Beavers (1-1-1) are scheduled to host the University of
Southern Maine Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Raiders (2-2) are scheduled to
visit Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
Farmington struck 5:13 into the match when Jen Richter (Lamoine,
Maine) corralled a short corner kick by Renee Dupre (Rehoboth,
Mass.). Richter lofted a shot over Rivier goalkeeper
Christine Surber (Langdon, N.H.) for the 1-0
lead.
Alida Peake (Penobscot, Maine) sniped a goal kick and scored to
pad the lead to 2-0 at 17:42 with Noelle Moulton (York, Maine)
getting a loose ball behind the defense and adding another tally at
31:10 to give the hosts at 3-0 command.
Amy Desimone (Methuen, Mass.) got the Raiders
on the scoreboard when she knocked in a ball originally played by
Morgan Greene (Acworth, N.H.) at 42:42 to cut the Farmington
advantage to 3-1.
Farmington held a 16-12 shot advantage, but Rivier kept
Farmington's Crystal Johnson (Cornville, Maine) busy in goal in the
second half with nine of its 12 bids coming in the frame. The
Beavers also benefitted from a little luck with Rivier's Jillian
Pilotte (Londonderry, N.H.) hitting the post early in the second
half.
Johnson recorded eight saves for the Beavers, who also held a
5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Surber stopped eight shots for the Raiders.
