Nashua NH - Rivier College (2-5 overall; 0-0 GNAC) was defeated
by Salve Regina University in 5 sets on Monday night. The Raiders
were riddled by inconsistent play for 3 out of the 5 sets which
eventually hurt them in the end against a scrappy and well coached
Seahawk squad.
RIV easily handled the odd numbered sets with scores of 25-16
and 25-10 but it was the even numbered sets that belonged to Salve
including a 25-14 romp in set 2. Set 4 looked to be much of the
same as the visitors went up 10 points by the midway point until
RIV made a stand and tied the match at 22. The Raiders couldn't
complete the comeback however and fell 23-25. RIV put down only 14
kills on 45 attempts with 10 errors in set 4. Set 5 showed Rivier
going up early but Coach Lindsay Marshall's (Rivier '08) squad once
again took advantage of the Raiders miscues making the switch with
a 8-4 lead and was able to maintain for a 15-12 victory.
Sophomore Kenna Finlayson (Derry,
NH) picked up a double double with a team high 19
kills and 10 digs. Senior Nicole Rodriguez (Newton,
MA) followed with 11 kills, 4 blocks and 3 ace serves
while junior libero Emileigh Cenedella (Townsend,
MA) scooped up a team high 15 digs and placed in 3
ace serves. Defensive specialists Lauren Saccoccio
(Warwick, RI) and Jess Amaral E. Providence,
RI) picked up 10 digs apiece while first year player
Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) put back a team
high 7 blocks. Junior setter Caitie Callahan (Dedham,
MA) served a team high 5 ace serves and freshman
Nicole Boucher (Windham, NH) chipped in with
8 kills.
Rivier will travels to Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday 9/16 for
a 7:00pm match.
