Nashua NH - Rivier College (1-0 GNAC; 7-8 overall) picked up
their first GNAC win of the year with a 3-1 win over pre-season
favorite Emerson College (5-1 GNAC; 13-3 overall). The Raiders
handed the 2009 GNAC Champions their first GNAC loss of the season
and scored their first win over the Lions in the last 3 meeting.
Rivier jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match but couldn't finish
the visitors after stumbling out of the gates in set 3. In set 4
the Blue and White were losing much of the match including a 4
point deficit at 22-19 before staging a gutsy comeback to win the
4th stanza 26-24 and the match 3-1.
Sophomore Kenna
Finlayson (Derry, NH) paced Rivier with a double
double which included 21 kills and 17 digs while junior Lauren
Saccoccio (Warwick, RI) had a double double of
her own with 41 assists and 21 digs. Freshman Nicole
Peacock (Warwick, RI) put down 10 kills and put
back a team high 5 blocks and junior libero Emileigh
Cenedella (Townsend, MA) scooped up a team high
23 digs and while passing well all match. Seniors Nicole Rodriguez (Newton, MA) and Danielle
Jacques (Derry, NH) were steady with a combined
15 kills and 4 blocks while sophomore Meghan
Farrell (Marlborough, MA) did all the little
things for RIV. The back row tandem of junior Caitlin Callahan (Dedham, MA) and sophomore Christi
Pratte (Manchester, NH) combined for solid
passing and good defense including a combined 21 digs. Callahan
also served well with a team high 3 service aces.
Rivier will travel to Norwich University on Saturday October 2
for two more GNAC matches. Rivier will take on Albertus Magnus
College at 2:00pm followed by host Norwich at 4:00pm.
