Nashua, N.H. – Junior Natalie Bates (N. Kingstown, R.I.)
netted two goals and two assists while rookie Sierra Ackerman
(Saratoga, Cal.) added a goal and assist guiding host Daniel
Webster past Rivier, 5-1 in a matchup of field hockey intracity
rivals Thursday in a game played at Rivier's Raider Field.
Rookies Courtney Brennan (Beverly, Mass.) and Samantha Crooker
(Gilford, N.H.) added solo scores as the third-year Eagles (3-2)
broke open a 1-1 game at the half with four second period scores
and rebounded from a Wednesday night loss at Salve Regina to climb
over .500 on the season.
Ashley Ruocco (East Kingston, N.H.) scored the
lone goal for the second-year Raiders (1-6), while Nicole Hauswirth (Cranston, R.I.) made nine saves in goal.
Junior Amy Prince (Hope Valley, R.I.) made seven stops for
DWC.
Bates put the hosts ahead 15 minutes in with an unassisted
10-yard slapper. But Rivier, which outshot the Eagles 6-4 in the
opening stanza, tied it in the 29th with Ruocco's first coming off
a Kristen Tyler* (Thornton, N.H.) feed during a scrum in front.
The Eagles took the lead for good as bates broke past the
defense for a three on none break, feeding Ackerman for the 2-1
lead in the 40th and Brennan knocked home a Bates pass just under
three minutes later for a two-goal lead.
Bates would send home an eight-yarder from Brennan in the 56th
and Crooker would close it out in the 63rd, knocking home an
Ackerman rebound for her first career goal.
DWC would finish with a 14-4 shots advantage in the second
half.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday as they visit Wheelock
College in their New England Collegiate Conference opener. Wheelock
ousted DWC in last season's NECC tournament semifinals.
Rivier visits St. Joseph's of Maine in a North Atlantic
Conference matchup Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
