Marietta, OH – The Rivier College Raiders advanced to the
championship game of the Marietta College Invitational Soccer
Tournament today on the heels of a 1-0 victory over the host
school. The game winning goal came from freshman Christina
Parent (Loudon, NH) who was able to get behind the keeper
and capitalize on a misplay by the defense, who missed a crossing
pass that scooted past the goalie and onto the foot of Parent.
The Raiders were outshot on the day 10-3, but the stellar play
in net by fellow freshman Christine Surber (Langdon,
NH), who recorded all 10 saves, helped the Raiders pick up
the season opening victory. Freshman Kaitlyn Souza
(Wilmington, MA) recorded the only other shots on goal for
the Raiders.
The Raiders will play in the Championship match on Sunday,
September 5th at 1:00 pm against Adrian College from Adrian,
Michigan. Adrian defeated the College of Mt. St. Joseph from
Cincinnati, OH 3-0 in the other match of the tournament to advance
to the championship game.
