NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 6, 2011 – The Rivier field hockey team held on for a 3-2 North Atlantic Conference win at Colby-Sawyer on Thursday evening.

The Raiders improve to 4-8 overall and 1-5 in NAC play, while Colby-Sawyer falls to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

The Raiders opened the scoring three minutes into the contest on a goal from junior Kristen Tyler (Thornton, N.H.). Freshman Presleigh Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was credited with the assist.

Rivier went ahead 2-0 at the 12 minute mark in the first when sophomore Kayla O'Reilly (Marshfield, Mass.) found the stick of junior teammate Lindsay Rettenmeier (Ashford, Conn.) who beat the keeper with her second goal of the season.

The Raiders added one more goal with two minutes left in the half to take a 3-0 lead into the break. Junior Ashley Ruocco (East Kingston, N.H.) scored her fifth goal of the season off O'Reilly's second assist of the contest.

After Rivier controlled play in the first, Colby-Sawyer came out in the second by controlling possession in the offensive end.

Freshman Alexa Comesanas (Germantown, N.Y.) was able to gather the ball away from the Rivier defenders in front of the net and put home her second tally of the season.

Freshman Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) brought the Chargers within one a minute later with her sixth goal of the season, but it was not enough as Rivier held on to the 3-2 lead for the final 20 minutes. Comesanas picked up the assist.

Rivier goalie, Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.), picked up the win and made nine saves. Colby-Sawyer goalie, sophomore Colleen O'Hurley (Weare, N.H.), made 5 saves in the loss.

Colby-Sawyer travels to Simmons on Saturday for a 1:00pm contest. Rivier plays at Castleton on Saturday under the lights at 6:00pm.
