BOSTON, Mass. - Emerson College, playing without leding scorer Meaghan Ross '11 (Wrentham, Mass.), got goals from six different players enroute to a 16-10 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse victory over Rivier College at Emerson's Rotch Field. The victory for the Lions was the first for first-year coach Paula Habel.
Chelsea Phillips '14 (Waterford, Conn, left) led the Emerson charge with six markers, while teammate Katie Dodge '11 (West Newbury, Mass.) tallied three goals and added an assist.
Rivier took an early 2-0 lead on goals by Jessica Amaral '14 (East Providence, R.I.) and Natlie Bonvie '12 (Salem, N.H.). A pair of tallies by Laura Miley '11 (Warwick, R.I.) sandwiched around one by Carmen Trobaugh '12 (Gales Ferry, Conn.) gave the Lions a 3-2 lead, but Rebecca Wickens '14 (Tyngsboro, Mass.) took a feed from Bonvie to knot the score at three.
Trobaugh and Miley again found net for a 5-3 Emerson lead. Wickens had an unassisted goal to bring the Raiders to within one goal, but Phillips notched her first score of the day just over a minute later which led to nine consecutive goals by the Lions to put the game out of reach.
Wickens had three goals for the Raiders, while Bonvie and Amaral each had two goals and an assist.
Emerson outshot Rivier 30-28 for the game including a 22-11 first half advantage. The Lions' Emily Seager '13 (Center Valley, Pa.) had 10 saves in the cage, while Caleigh Bertolaccini '13 (Chelmsford, Mass.) made four stops for Rivier.
Emerson (1-5, 1-0 GNAC) will next host Curry College on Tuesday evening at 6:00pm in a non-conference match-up. Rivier (3-1, 0-1 GNAC) will host Green Mountain College Sunday at noon in a game that is also a non-league contest.
