Rivier Outscores Husson in Second Half to Grab Win

Nashua, NH – After an even first half of women's lacrosse action and the score tied 7-7, Rivier College outshot the Husson Eagles 22-8 in the second half and outscored Husson 8-4 to claim the victory 15-11. Freshman Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA) led the Raiders offense with 5 goals and 1 assist while classmate Jessica Amaral (E. Providence, RI) scored 4 times with an assist as well.

The Raiders went up 3-1 on back to back goals by Amaral in the first half, but the Eagles tied it up while playing a player up when Stephanie Eaton and Kim Gambon scored back to back goals just 34 seconds apart. The Eagles were up 7-6 heading into the final five minutes of the half, but couldn't hold the lead as Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, NH) scored on a free position shot to tie the game at 7-7 heading into halftime.

Husson opened the second half with two goals, one each from Rebecca Hatin and Eaton, to go up 9-7, but again the Raiders battled back and ted the game eight minutes later at 10-10. Over the final fifteen minutes of play Rivier outscored Husson 5-1 with senior Natalie Bonvie (Salem, NH) scoring the final two goals for the Raiders just 13 seconds apart with just over two minutes left to play to push the score to 15-11.

Husson goal keeper Kaleigh Morneau was peppered with shots all day and despite taking the loss came up big with 19 saves while allowing 15 goals. Rivier keeper Caleigh Bertolaccini (Chelmsford, MA) was helped all day by some great play by the Raiders defensive unit and allowed 11 goals and needed to make just 5 saves in the win.
