Nashua, NH - The Rivier College Field Hockey team dropped a non-conference match up tonight to visiting Fitchburg State, 8-0.
The Falcons (4-3, 1-1 Little East) started the scoring around the 18 minute mark when junior Jamie Kelley (Pepperell, MA) deposited one into net. Fitchburg State would add to the lead just five minutes later when senior Mari Roma (Foxborough, MA) took a Kaitlin Silva (Fr., West Townsend, MA) pass and slapped it in for a 2-0 lead. FSU would add another goal senior Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, MA) put one between the pipes.
Fitchburg State would tally five more goals in the second half. Kelley, Roma and Jacobs all recorded their second goals of the night while junior Mary-Anne Goodsell (West Springfield, MA) and sophomore Rebecca Bush (Littleton, MA) added their names to the score sheet.
Rivier freshman goaltender Makenzie Flagg (Shirely, MA) had a tough night as she was able to stop 17 of the 25 shots she saw on net. Fitchburg State's senior goalkeeper Taylor Begin (Haverhill, MA) stopped the only shot she saw in the game.
The Raiders (2-5, 0-2 NAC) will hit the road this weekend as they travel to the state of Maine for two games. First up is a NAC contest with Husson University on Saturday (9/24). On Sunday, they will square off against NAC opponent Saint Joseph's College (ME). Fitchburg State will host Bridgewater State in a Little East match up on Saturday afternoon.
