(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team fell to the visiting Thomas College Terriers by the score of 14-7 this afternoon at Raider Field. With the loss, the Raiders drop to 0-1 on the season. With the win, the Terriers improve their record to 1-0.
Both the Raiders and Terriers played very well in this one. Blistering winds and mild snowfall made this game a very chilly and testing one. To start the game, the Terriers came out shooting. Scoring 4 straight to take the lead 4-0 over the Raiders. A goal by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) at the 25 minute mark, opened the scoring for the Raiders. Starting at the 21 minute mark, the Raiders went on a 3-1 scoring run. Despite the increasingly good play from the Raiders, the Terriers pushed them back with an attack of their own.
Thomas began a 6-0 run of their own, led by Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass.) who scored 3 goals during the span. The Raiders however, would respond with a nice 3 goal run of their own with Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) scoring 2 impressive goals. Unfortunately for the Raiders, Thomas would fight back again, finishing the game on a 2-0 run, closing out the Raiders 14-7 to capture their first win of the season.
Rivier had good performances turned in by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who was able to score 3 goals for the Raiders. Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) added an additional 3 goals while teammate Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.) tallied 3 key assists. Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) had a good showing in net, coming up with 5 saves on the day.
Thomas College had good performances turned in by Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass.) who had a game high 6 goals and 2 assists for the Terriers. Jennifer Day (West Gardiner, Maine) was second with 4 goals while Brittany Premo (Concord, N.H.) added an additional 2 goals. Allie McCarthy (Saco, Maine) had a solid game with 12 saves.
The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team will next play host to Fitchburg State on March 2nd at 6:00pm. This is a non-conference matchup for the Raiders. The Terriers will next play on March 21st at 1:00pm at New England College.
