(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team fell this afternoon against Worcester State at Coughlin Field. With the loss, the Raiders drop their season record to 0-2. As for Worcester State, they improve their season record to 1-0.
This was a rather tough matchup for the Raiders in this one. Unfortunately, they found themselves on the losing end of a rather lopsided game. Despite the loss, the Raiders played hard and never gave up. When the game looked as if it would be over, the Raiders would find a way to fight their way back. Although Rivier was only able to produce 3 goals on the offensive side of the ball, they still were able to move the ball around well, and communicate effectively.
The game began with an impressive 7-0 run by Worcester State. It wasn't until the 11:39 mark that Rivier was able to end the streak of Worcester. Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) was able to put the Raiders on the board with an impressive strike. Less than 2 minutes later, Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) off of a free position shot, gave the Raiders their second goal of the game, to cut the lead to 8-2.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, Worcester State would end up scoring 10 out of the final 11 goals. Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) off of another free position shot, was able to pick up her second goal of the game at the 12:07 mark. At this point, the Raiders trailed 16-3. Although it was a good effort put forth by the Raiders, it ultimately wasn't enough to steal the victory.
