Field Hockey Downed by Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. – The Rivier field hockey team fell, 6-2, to Lasell in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday evening at Grellier Field

With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 0-0 (0-0 GNAC), while the lasers improved to 0-0 (0-0 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first frame was Lasers finding the back of the net four times.
  • Brianna Spinelli scored the lone goal of the second quarter, 4-1.
  • The Lasers extended their lead to four early in the third quarter 
  • Sophomore Kelsey Bain found the back of the net off a feed from Spinelli just shy of the midway point in the third, making it a 5-2 game
  • Lasell tacked on one final final tally with just over three minutes remaining in the third
  • Both teams played a scoreless fourth quarter with the Lasers holding on defensively, taking the contest 6-2
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Spinelli led the offense with eight shots, seven of which were on target and one goal
  • Senior goalkeeper Lily Gifford recorded six saves in the outing

The Raiders return to play Saturday, Oct. 4, to take on GNAC opponents Saint Joseph (Conn.) at the USJ Field Hockey Field. The game is set for 5:00 p.m.
