WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Rivier field hockey team fell, 4-1, to Saint Joseph (Conn.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon at the USJ Field Hockey Field.
With the result, the Raiders fell to 2-9 (2-4 GNAC), while the Blue Jays improved to 7-5 (3-2 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rivier opened the scoring in the 2nd minute as first-year Mary Kelley found the back of the net off a feed from junior Shaelyn Burke.
- The Blue Jays responded with back-to-back goals in the sixth and eighth minute marks to take the 2-1 lead at the end of one.
- USJ scored the lone goal of the second quarter, extending their lead to 3-1 going into the second half.
- With neither side able to convert, the score remained the same through the third.
- The Blue Jays knocked in one more in the fourth quarter to secure the 4-1 victory.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Senior Lily Gifford tallied six saves.
- The Raiders held the slight advantage in Penalty Corners, 10-7.
