Women’s Soccer Fends Off Albertus Magnus, 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Rivier women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field, powered by two goals from sophomore Leah Morrier. 

With the win, the Raiders Improved to 7-4-2 (6-1-1 GNAC), while the Falcons Dropped to 10-2-2 (5-1-2 GNAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • The Raiders opened the scoring in the 20th minute as Morrier netted her first goal off a feed from junior Maya Leach. 

  • Morrier struck again in the 53rd minute to extend the lead to 2-0. 

  • In a last-ditch effort at a comeback, the Falcons found twine in the 82nd minute, cutting the lead to 2-1.  

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN 

  • Shots finished even at 14 apiece. 

  • All saves in the match came in the second half, the Falcons holding the 5-3 advantage. 

  • Corner kick opportunities for both teams were knotted at 4-4.
