WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Rivier men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw with Saint Joseph (Conn.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the USJ Soccer Field.
With the result, the Raiders moved to 2-4-5 (2-2-2 GNAC), while the Blue Jays moved to 5-3-2 (4-0-2 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Jays got on the board first by a Raider's own goal mid-way through the first half.
- Both teams traded opportunities through the rest of the first half, but the score held in favor of USJ,1-0.
- Sophomore Luiggi Ferreira netted the equalizer for the Raiders in the 61st minute, with the assists awarded to first-year David Pereira and classmate Arthur Dias.
- USJ responded ten minutes later to take back their lead, 2-1.
- The Raiders pulled even in the 78th minute when sophomore Alejandro Quezada buried a pass from classmate Matthews Ferreira to make it 2-2.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Both squads finished with 16 shots in the match.
- Junior Logan Clough tallied six saves in the net.
- The Blue Jays held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks, with all four of the Raiders' opportunities coming in the second half.
