NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's volleyball team completed the reverse sweep dramatic over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents New England Col. (NEC) on Saturday morning inside the Muldoon Center.
With the win, the Raiders improved to 15-13 overall (9-3 GNAC), while the Pilgrims fell to 8-17 (5-5 GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The opening frame was tight early, with both sides trading points through the first 10 rallies
· Ali Rivera and Sam Driend each notched early kills to keep Rivier ahead 10-7
· NEC rallied behind leveling the match 12-12 midway through the frame
· The Pilgrims built off their mid-set momentum, pulling away let and eventually grabbed a 1-0 match lead
· NEC carried its momentum into the second set, maintaining a three-point advantage throughout the majority of the frame
· Rivier chipped away in the later stages of the second set off kills from sophomores Lily Seibel and Lydia Brakefield
· Driend notched a kill to level the match at 24, but the Pilgrims recorded back-to-back points to take the set 26-24
· The Raiders dominated the third set, out hitting their opponents .250 to -.088.
· Rivera led the way with five kills in the set with a .333 hitting percentage
· Driend recorded an eight-point service run halfway through the third set, giving Rivier a 15-7 lead
· Rivera rounded out the frame with a service run of her own, claiming the set on a service to cut NEC's lead to one
· The Raiders took control early, jumping to a 14–10 lead behind senior Callie Nanos and Rivera
· The Pilgrims chipped at Rivier's lead, coming within just one point late in the set
· Senior Kaitlyn Miller and first-year Reagan Pepin put the Raiders in a strong down the stretch from the service line, eventually taking the set 25-20
· Rivier took a commanding 9-2 lead in the fifth set
· The Raiders closed out the set on a 5-3 run
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
· Rivera paced the offense with 19 kills and a .320 hitting percentage
· Nanos finished with 10 kills and four total blocks
· Seibel recorded 48 assists and seven digs
· Defensively, Miller recorded 30 digs
