Women’s Ice Hockey Rout MCLA, 7-1

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team scored five unanswered goals in the final 60 minutes of action to secure the 7-1 victory over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponents The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Friday evening.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 2-2-0 (2-0-0 MASCAC), while the Trailblazers fell to 0-3-0 (0-1-0 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • First-year Casey Roth opened the scoring just over six minutes into the contest on a power play opportunity on feeds from sophomore Keegan McGaheran and senior Jillian Hallee
  • MCLA tied the game up with 6:09 remaining in the opening period on an even strength chance
  • With 1:03 remaining in the frame, first-year Chloe Bryda and McGaheran connected with first-year Mary Kelley for her first career goal to put the Raiders up 2-1
  • Rivier tallied four unanswered goals in the second period
  • Roth logged her second score of the contest followed junior Tia Picardi and first-year Ella Spinazola linking up with Kelley who found twine second time just 28 seconds apart
  • Junior Haylie Grossmann linked up with Roth, unmarked deep in the offensive zone, who in turn found Picardi open in the slot of the Raiders' third goal of the period
  • Sophomore Lillian Wojcicki logged her first point of her career, assisting on first-year Lexi Davies' first career goal to cap of the second period offensive surge from Rivier
  • Three quarters of the way through the third period, first-year Giada Musa concluded the scoring and secured the contest for the Raiders, 7-1, with her first collegiate goal

  • As a team, the Raiders finished with a +29 rating, while outshooting the Trailblazers 84-16
  • Roth and Kelley paced the offense with three points each
  • Nine different Raiders assisted in the win
  • First-year Kailyn Williams stopped 15 shots in her first career win in goal
