NASHUA, N.H.- The Rivier men's ice hockey team ended regulation in a 4-4 tie to non-conference and non-division foe Saint Anselm, eventually falling 2-1 in a shootout on Tuesday night at Conway Arena.
With the result, the Raiders fell to 1-7-1, while the Hawks improved to 2-5-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks struck early, scoring three goals before the first 15 minutes.
- Senior Carter Poulin put the Raiders on the board with a blueline strike off a feed from junior Tyler Sitnikov.
- STA added another in the second frame to extend the lead to 4–1.
- At the 16:21 mark, senior Alfred Rotiroti buried a bottle-breaker, connecting with first-year Nick Zanin and Poulin to cut the deficit.
- First-year Levi Adcock brought the Raiders within one after connecting with classmate Evan Miles and junior Chris Allain.
- First-year Mason Rudrud went bar down to send the game to OT with 2.6 seconds left to play, off a setup from first-year Payton Kender and Junior Damon Kiyawasew.
- Â In overtime, both teams traded chances, but neither could capitalize.
-  In the shootout, Rudrud put the Raiders up 1–0 after the first pair of attempts.
- Saint Anselm converted on their next try while denying Rivier to even it at 1–1.
- Â The following five attempts were stopped on both sides until STA converted on their fifth and denied RIV's chance to secure the win.
