Men's Ice Hockey Falls Short in OT to Bison

Harrisville, R.I. – The Rivier men's Ice hockey team fell short in overtime to Nichols 4-3, on Friday night at Levy Rink, in non-conference play. 

With the result, the Raiders fell to 0-3, while the Bison improved to 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nichols jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring on power plays in both the first and second periods.
  • First-year Payton Kender cut the deficit in half 6:27 into the third, assisted by classmates Aaron Sawicki and Mason Rudrud.
  • Less than a minute later, sophomore Damon Kiyawasew tied the game at 2-2.
  • Rudrud gave the Raiders their first lead at the 9:29 mark, with assists from Kender and first-year Brayden Deschamps.
  • The Bison answered on a power play at 11:53 to even the score at 3-3 and force overtime.
  • Nichols secured the 4-3 victory 2:31 in the extra frame.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Nichols outshot Rivier 57-29.
  • Junior Mason Meyer recorded 53 saves between the pipes.
