SALEM, Mass. – The Rivier men's ice hockey team fell by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent Salem St. at Rockett Arena.
With the loss, the Raiders fell to 5-13-1 (1-10-1 MASCAC), while the Vikings improved to 12-6-0 (8-4-0 MASCAC).
Salem St. took an early 1-0 lead, firing in the game's first goal 14 seconds into the opening frame. The Vikings doubled up the Raiders at the 16:47 mark of the first period.
The Vikings continued to dominate offensively, outshooting Rivier 20-15 over the course of the final two periods.
Senior goalkeeper Luke Newell logged 32 saves in the setback.
The Raiders return to home ice on Friday, Feb. 7 as they face off against Mass. Liberal Arts in another MASCAC contest. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. at Conway Arena.
