Women's Volleyball Falls to Gordon in Four

WENHAM, Mass. - The Rivier women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Gordon, 3-1, at the Bennett Center on Thursday, Sept. 11th.

With the result, the Raiders fell to 2-6, while the Fighting Scots improved to 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gordon set the tone early, stringing together a series of rallies to get out to a 21-7 lead. 
  • The Fighting Scots closed out the opening frame on a 4-1 run, taking the first set 25-10.
  • Gordon began the second set with the same offensive power they entered the match with, securing five straight points. 
  • Rivier found its momentum beginning with a service ace by junior Sam Driend.
  • The Raiders went on to score six straight points, taking their first lead of the game which forced Gordon into a timeout. 
  • Following the timeout, both squads traded points midway through the set, with neither being able to pull away with the score knotted up at 21–21.
  • Rivier closed the second set on a four-point surge, highlighted by kills from sophomore Tia Pegler and senior Callie Nanos kill, to take it 25–22.
  • Gordon regained the form that they showed to begin the match in the third and fourth sets, outscoring the Raiders 50-31 to secure the match. 
  • The third set began with both programs going point-for-point until a five-point rally put the Fighting Scots in a position to go up 2-1 in the game.
  • The final set began in a similar fashion to the second and third sets.
  • Sophomore Lily Seibel recorded back-to-back kills, cutting Gordon's lead to two.
  • Gordon answered with a 7-1 run to take a 19-11 advantage.
  • Following the rally, the Fighting Scots recorded 9 of the final 13 points in the match, securing the fourth set 25-15, and took the match, 3-1.
BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Nanos led the offense, recording seven kills with a .333 hitting percentage.
  • Seibel posted a .214 hitting percentage with five kills, along with 22 assists, and four digs.
  • Senior Kaitlyn Miller highlighted Rivier's defense with 17 digs.

The Raiders will head to Boston, Mass., on Saturday, Sept. 13th, for a non-conference tri-match at the Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gym, as they are set to take on Emerson at 1:00 p.m. and Wentworth at 3:00 p.m.
