Field Hockey Outlasts Regis Mass., 2-1

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team secured its first home victory of the season by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup with Regis (Mass.) at Joanne Merrill Field.  

With the result, the Raiders improved to 2-6 overall (2-1 GNAC), while the Pride dropped to 2-5 (0-3 GNAC).  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  •   Rivier took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, as Mary Kelley's corner delivery found Reilly Swislosky, who set up Shaelyn Burke for the score. 
  • The Raiders doubled their lead in the second quarter as Junior Brianna Spinelli  tipped in the ball from a feed from first-year Lexi Davies2-0. 
  • Rivier outshot the Pride 3-0 in the third quarter, but was unable to capitalize.
  • The Pride narrowed the gap in the fourth quarter but came up short, ending 2-1.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN  

  • The Raiders outshot the Pride,18-8. 
  • Senior goalkeeper  Lily Gifford  recorded four saves in the win. 
  • The Raiders held a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners.

The Raiders return to Joanne Merrill Field Saturday, September 27, for an Alumni Weekend matchup against GNAC foe Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The contest is set for 3:00 p.m.
