Field Hockey Falls to Monks, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up on Alumni Reunion Weekend. 

With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 2-7 (2-2 GNAC), while the Monks improved to 5-3 (4-1 GNAC). 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the final 45 seconds of the first frame, the monks found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Midway through the second quarter, the Raiders capitalized on a penalty corner as Mary Kelly inserted to Reilley Swislosky, who swept it across to Kelsey Baine. Baine's pass found Brianna Spinelli on the doorstep, where she tipped it in to even the score at 1-1.
  • SJC scored the lone goal in the third, regaining the lead, 2-1.
  • The Monks capped off their scoring efforts with a penalty corner to seal the game, 3-1.

  • Lily Gifford finished with nine saves.
  • Sophia Quinnlian recorded two defensive saves.
