NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Rivier men's soccer team traveled to Mitchell College this morning for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against the Mariners. The Raiders dominated the action throughout the game and were able to head back home with a 3-0 victory, marking their fourth consecutive conference win.  

With the result, Rivier improved to a record of 7-6-2 (5-3-1 GNAC) while Mitchell fell to 1-10-3 (1-6-2 GNAC).  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• The Raiders struck early, less than four minutes into the match, when sophomore David Pereira finished the opening goal to take an early 2-0 lead.  

• In the 21st minute, junior Aidan Gulli doubled the advantage with his first collegiate goal midway through the first half, extending Rivier's lead to 2-0. 

• The Raiders controlled the action throughout the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Mariners 12-2 and taking the two-goal cushion into halftime. 

• Coming back from the break, Rivier wasted little time scoring after they earned a penalty kick, and junior Alejandro Quezada converted from the spot to make it 3-0. 

• The Raiders continued to dictate possession and limited Mitchell's offensive opportunities over the final 36 minutes. 

• The Raiders' defense held firm down the stretch, securing a 3-0 shutout victory and an important GNAC road win. 

BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN 

• Rivier held a commanding 21-4 advantage in total shots and placed 14 shots on goal compared to Mitchell's one. 

• Gulli and Quezada led Rivier with four shots apiece. 

• Rivier also controlled the set-piece battle, holding an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. 

• Graduate Student AJ Deyarmin earned a shutout, the first of his collegiate career.

The Rivier men's soccer team returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 21st for more conference action against New England College. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m at Joanne Merrill Field.
